Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Weight Loss

The consumption of omega-3 fatty acids can help to regulate the body's sugar levels, thus helping to reduce cravings and keep hunger in check. Some sources have also reported that fish oil - a good source of the omega 3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - can help to boost the effectiveness of exercise in weight loss and even improve body tone. In addition, some research has indicated that EPA and DHA can help in the release of fats from body cells.

However, in all these cases, the use of omega 3 fatty acids were used to complement a healthy diet and lifestyle; there was no suggestion that fish oils could be used as a weight loss aid in those who led a sedentary lifestyle and/or had a poor diet.
